Two very different Middlesbrough lawns
The town splits neatly in two as far as grass is concerned. North and central, in Ayresome, Gresham, Linthorpe and North Ormesby, back gardens are small, enclosed by high brick walls and often overshadowed by a mature sycamore two doors down. Light is the limiting factor, not fertiliser, and shade-tolerant fescue blends with a higher cutting height achieve more than any amount of feed.
South and east, the post-war and later estates of Coulby Newham, Hemlington, Netherfields and Berwick Hills sit on thin topsoil over compacted clay. Those lawns are open and sunny but drain slowly, so they compact under family use and go mossy through winter. Hollow-tine aeration usually transforms them faster than anything else.
Marton and Nunthorpe
The larger plots around Marton, Stainton and Nunthorpe bring their own pattern: substantial lawns, mature trees, and a familiar mix of dry shade under canopy and worn desire lines where everyone walks. These gardens usually justify a proper annual programme plus autumn renovation, because the area involved makes patch repair a losing game.
Local prices
Treatment visits £25 to £45 depending on measured area, scarification £1.20 to £2.50/m², aeration 80p to £1.80/m², turf £8 to £16/m² laid. Terraced gardens reached only through the house or a shared ginnel take longer to clear debris from, which shows in a scarification quote and should be explained rather than buried.
